Notes

Notes (1)

A similar figure of an old woman, executed in red chalk, which has been tentatively attributed to Niccoló dell’Abate, is in the Louvre (see Eugene A. Carroll, The Drawings of Rosso Fiorentino, New York/London 1976, vol. II, p. 506, cat. F. 47, fig. 201).

Sotheby’s, Old Master Drawings, New York January 2000

Notes (2)

The Louvre drawing was attributed to Rosso Fiorentino by Kusenberg in 1931. This attribution, which was approved by Berenson in 1938 and by Barocchi in 1950, was yet refuted by Pietro Longhi.
